Bookish Photo A Day Challenge – February 2015: 24. Non-Fiction.

In response to Bluebookbelle’s Bookish Photo A Day Challenge – February 2015 #AWORphotoaday

My non-fiction selection is going to have to be music based.  I could have chosen other non-fiction books but I do like reading books by artists/musicians/actors as it gives us an understanding of the ‘real’ person.  For example I wasn’t particularly into ‘Blur’ but I read Alex James’ (bass player) two books and they are fascinating.

For this challenge, I have chosen a book by my song-writing hero Neil Finn.

Neil Finn – Once Removed. (2000)

non fict

This book marks a significant change in Neil Finn’s life, where he breaks free from Crowded House and embarks on his first solo album & tour in 1998 ‘Try Whistling This’.

It follows the tour with loads of great, arty, candid photos by Mark smith along with words and musings by Neil Finn. A collection of landscapes, venues, travel and speed, it is a real insight into the inner world of a touring musician.  What I like about this book, and Neil Finn generally, is the down to earth approach to everything he does.  A true musician/songwriter who has never fallen headlong into the trappings of the stereotypical rock star pompousness & lifestyle; for which he adored for the world over.  His career spans decades, from his work with Split Enz, Crowded House and now his solo work which is beginning to almost eclipse the latter.  I also love the fact that on this first solo tour he took his whole family on with him!

This is probably the most well know track from ‘Try Whistling This’ – ‘She Will Have Her Way’
