In response to Bluebookbelle’s Bookish Photo A Day Challenge – February 2015 #AWORphotoaday
My chosen Children’s Book is The Cats of Tiffany Street by Sarah Hayes.
The three elements which make this book so good are the beautiful watercolour illustrations, the story (which is in rhyme) and of course the cats themselves.
It tells the story of a bunch of cats who are scooped up and taken away by a ‘man in a van’ who takes them to a ‘turkey shed.’ They escape and return to Tiffany Street but the man wasn’t bad – he was just sad! This is the rhyme on the first page where we are introduced to the cats:
On Friday night they arranged to meet down at the end of Tiffany Street.
They climbed out of windows, squeezed through doors, and one came down from the seventh floor.
There was Marmalade Ned with his special fish head, Captain Bligh who only had one eye.
Delicate Fan from Isfahan, Pitter and Pat the family cats,
and Shadow the stray who wandered all day searching and searching for somewhere to stay.
I love Marmalade Ned and in every illustration throughout the book he’s holding on to ‘fish head’, so cute!
